Battery Park City, just west of the highway, contains both high-rise and low-rise buildings surrounded by green public space on the water front. Many of the residential and commercial buildings are taller; it resembles the Financial District yet is markedly less hectic. Comfortable apartments fill the area, often with doormen, elevators, parking and indoor amenities. In effect, Battery City Park resembles an oasis from the city itself, like a separate community that still remains conveniently part of Manhattan.
